Conditions that can be helped by Hypnosis
Hypnotherapy is often used to modify an unacceptable or unwanted behaviour, emotion, or attitude. It can also be successful in treating a wide range of conditions including dysfunctional habits, anxiety, fears and phobias, stress-related illness, pain management, and personal development.
Some examples of where hypnotherapy can be used to treat a condition / symptom or aid in recovery / well-being are listed below.
Quitting smoking is one of the best decisions you will ever make and yet it is one of the hardest! Deciding to become a smoker is not a decision that most people take logically. It is an emotional decision taken at a subconscious level. Therefore, any decision to stop needs to be taken at that same level. Quite simply, this is why hypnosis is such a successful way to give up smoking cigarettes.
It sounds easy, so what has stopped you before? Simple - you didn't deal with the psychological addiction of smoking. Many people considering stopping smoking feel that their choice is being taken away from them. With hypnotherapy, the secret is that it gets people to use their imagination to create a non-smoking future. This often feels very positive and empowering. Stopping smoking becomes YOUR positive and definite choice.
And just think of all the positive benefits both financially and for your health!
'Eating Disorder' is a very general term applied to those of you who exhibit certain behaviours and attitudes around food, eating and your weight.
Owing to the very nature of your problem it is virtually guaranteed there are emotional issues involved and these have usually manifested themselves into you feeling uncomfortable, out of control or guilty & ashamed around food, eating and your weight.Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy can help you in several ways, depending upon your particular eating disorder and individual circumstances. Reducing the urges, feeling in control and feeling 'normal' again are just some of the typical benefits you will experience after your Hypnotherapy sessions.
Hypnotherapy can help you uncover the reason why you use food in this way, and help you find alternative and healthier ways of dealing with those feelings.
'Stress' is a term that covers a wide range of phenomena from mild irritation to the kind of severe problems that could result in a real breakdown of health. Most of us can deal with moderate amounts of stress, it's just part of modern day life and we somehow seem to factor it in and get on with things. Yet it is long term, chronic stress that is truly emotionally and psychologically damaging and difficult to live with. When this happens, it is called a stress disorder.
Feelings of real stress just seem to sap away our energy and vitality, leaving us with feelings of exhaustion and even depression. This is why an effective strategy for stress reduction and stress management is essential if we are to maintain our inner balance and well being.
Through Hypnotherapy you can learn to respond in a more positive manner to the triggers of stress and free yourself from stress disorder, gaining real and lasting stress relief.
Fears and Phobias
Fears and phobias are common - over 10% of people experience a simple phobia at some time. From flying, spiders and birds, to heights, injections and open spaces, there is nothing we cannot develop an anxiety or phobia about. Happily, hypnosis can provide an extremely effective cure for these problems as it provides the opposite of anxiety - deep relaxation - whilst re-training the mind to respond differently, in a more acceptable way, to the feared object or situation.
Hypnotherapy can help with weight loss and weight management by breaking the old cycle of our eating habits. During the first session I will look at what you eat on a daily basis and why you eat certain ‘comfort foods’. We will also discuss exercise and fluid intake. I will give you some simple charts to log your intake to take away with you, and we would look at them in the following session. This would then give me a picture of what is going on for you. From there I can plan the treatment which would be best suited to you.
During the first session we would look at the reasons for your lack of confidence and what you hope to achieve with your new found confidence. This would be followed by hypnosis, giving your unconscious mind some positive suggestions in order to begin to change the way you think about yourself. In future sessions we would do some visualization work, as well as looking at ways of taking control of your thinking patterns.
Hypnosis can be very helpful and extremely effective with all kinds of individual and team sports. The greatest sports people are the ones who have mastered their thinking with a positive frame of mind which in turn has helped them to become successful.
Visualisation work with hypnosis will help this process and this will, with practice, become deeply imbedded in the unconscious mind and will replace old thinking patterns.
Irritable Bowl Syndrome
IBS is exacerbated by stress. As well as looking at your diet I would also do some visualization work, and give your unconscious mind some positive suggestions. You would be taught relaxation techniques for you to practice at home and which would be incorporated in the hypnosis sessions. All of which would help to break the old cycle of stress/anxiety and help you to be able to view life in a more positive way.
